We post about both Karina Pasian and Chrisette Michele on this site a lot… after all as part of my main hustle, I help both artists with their online marketing…
But a loyal reader just sent in an exclusive outtake from Karina’s debut album, First Love, which dropped last August. The track is titled “All I Ever Think About” and yes, you guessed it right, it’s the same song that Chrisette Michele sings on her sophomore album, Epiphany, which came out last Tuesday.
Naturally, I want to know who you think sang it better? Who had more soul? Discuss!!!
She was born Jovanna Melendez and has been residing in the bronx almost all of her life. She first got into music when she was in the third grade being a part of a choir for her elementary school, St. Philip Neri, in the bx, for three years. After performing several times with her choir she realized that music was something that she couldn’t live without. She began singing constantly and writing her own songs.
Chicago-bred, electro-beat-making, clever-rhyming, falsetto-singing Christian Rich are one of the most exciting and innovative duos in music today. More info at their Myspace & Imeem.
“Mercury” is set to be the first single off Karina Pasian’s sophomore album, yet to be titled. KP sent us the original version–which we can’t leak yet–and it’s AMAZING!
From South Bronx to Miami, Slip N’ Slide Records to Def Jam, people have taken note: Shonie can sing. After moving to Miami with her family at age nine, Shonie joined her church’s choir, where here immense vocal talents first became apparent to her and those around her. “My mom was heavily involved in the church, so it was only right that I join the church choir. It was at that time that my mom noticed my ability to carry a note,” Shonie explains. “She had me sing in front of different people to see if they would get the same reaction as she had after listening to me sing at church and around the house, and they all had the same response by saying, “That girl can SING!!!” I had written my first song when I was 9 years old and finally got the chance to record it when my mom arranged for me to go into a real studio.”
Despite her success in the choir, Shonie never set out to become a gospel superstar; instead, she planned on hitting it big as a female rapper. Shonie has released a nationally distributed mixtape, hosted by DJ Khaled, and collaborated with artists like Flo Rida, B5, Trick Daddy, and Trina, with whom she sang on “Wish I Never Met You.” Finally, after achieving much behind-the-scenes success, the R&B songstress linked up with Slip N’ Slide Records CEO Ted Lucas, who signed her to a record deal paired with distribution from Def Jam Records.
Since then, Shonie has set her sights on pop stardom, and plans on “branding herself as one of the greatest female entertainers…in this industry.” Shonie’s sound combines disparate influences like Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Beyoncé, and Betty Wright, with lyrics that show she’s unafraid of being revelatory and raw in the recording studio. “I want to be known as the popular songstress that is respected for the sincerity that comes through my music,” Shonie explains.
Whatever the venue or genre, one thing is certain: Shonie is here to stay.
