Common vs. Lil’ Wayne: There’s No Beef!

So this rumor broke down earlier yesterday that Common had supposedly dissed Lil’ Wayne this past weekend at the HH101 festival in Los Angeles, CA.

Here’s an account of what *supposedly* went down:

Common has been known to drop a subliminal diss here and there. Remember that line that was supposedly for 50 Cent? I don’t know if you do, but that’s of no consequence. Over the weekend, Luda and Common headlined the LA Hip-Hop 101 festival and it was there to educate the youth about real Hip-Hop. When I say real Hip-Hop, I mean more than rap. Common finally came out, and he put on an amazing show, I was informed. He was breakdancing, playing old-school classics it was sick. BUT, according to the people that were there, I heard he dropped a freestyle where he said, “I hate Wayne but I have a lollipop, I hate Wayne but I’d f**k a cop.” I have yet to find any video on the show, but if you do send it over.

Just for the other half of the show…Ludacris, was the the headliner. He was pretty ill and gave the crowd classics like Common before him. He also showed up with Hip-Hop’s favorite booty clapper Shawnna and she did her thing too - killed it. I hope their album together comes out right.

This simply isn’t true…and since LiveFromLAX.com (our other half) was in the building…we wanted to show you the video footage to prove it. Check out the clip below… Common simply says “I Ain’t Lil’ Wayne but I got a lollipop….” There’s no hate people.

So there you have it. We’ll be posting up more clips of Common, Ludacris, and Janelle Monae’s performance at HH101 shortly…

WTF Quote of The Moment: Soulja Boy

Soulja Boy

Via BallerStatus:

Despite [Soulja Boy's] massive popularity, the rapper’s sophomore album iSouljaBoyTellem has been a disappointment sales-wise, compared to his platinum debut SouljaBoyTellEm.com. He credits the deeper content of new album as its downfall.

Now that you’ve heard Soulja Boy’s alleged reasoning behind his sophomore album, iSouljaBoyTellEm doing terrible numbers, check out this choice record off the album below:

Listen: Soulja Boy- “Gucci Bandana” (Feat. Feat Gucci Mane And Shawty Lo)

Really deep kid.

Public Service Announcement: Louis Vuitton is WACK

I wanted to take the time out today to inform you that:

Louis Vuitton Trunks Stacked

LOUIS VUITTON IS WACK!

I’ve seen so many people lately flaunting their LV wallets, bags, duffels, purses, iPhone cases, you name it… and it disgusts me.

In my opinion, anything LV is the most blatant example of conspicuous consumption, materialism, lack of self confidence (which makes you feel the need to prove your worth), bad money management, and ironically, a terrible eye for style.

Not to mention LV continuously hates on the urban/hip-hop community (i.e. not letting T.I. release his video for “Swing Ya Rag” which would have brought a lot of publicity to the brand — but an audience LV didn’t want to associate itself any more with). Why support a brand that dislikes everything you stand for, and chooses to separate itself from you?

Everytime I see someone with something LV monogram (especially wack ass fanny packs and messenger bags) I throw up a little bit. It’s a sign of desperation for someone to drop $300 on a scrap of leather “iPhone case” just to prove everyone that they have some paper. And don’t pull that “LV is high quality” shit. I still use the luggage provided to me for free with a cologne purchase — articles that evidently cost 25 cents to produce — and haven’t run into any quality issues.

So why do people rock LV? Some people think it’s exclusive. But this simply isn’t true–anyone from Idaho, Nebraska, South Dakota, etc. can cop LV online at ELUXURY. Others think it’s fashionable. Obviously this is up to you, but I think it looks disgusting. And finally, some people think it proves others that they have money. With an insane amount of knock-offs available both online and in the streets (I once bought a faux LV wallet in 8th grade for $5 on Canal Street), it’s become hard to determine whether people are rocking real or fake LV….in addition to the fact that not many even care to distinguish such authenticity.

Bottom line…you want to be a trendsetter? Look at other brands that don’t pimp themselves out with logos. Go for something classy. Logo-less items are in. Or you still want to prove people you have money? You should invest in a psychiatrist to build up a feeling of self-worth.

I’d like to hear what you guys think… but PLEASE think twice before throwing $3,000 down the toilet to purchase some played-out leather.

Oprah: “You Get A Car!”

Remember the whole craze over Oprah Winfrey giving away a ton of free Pontiac G6’s on her talk show? Check out this hilarious remix of the video.

You may find this random, but it turns out Tesla, who recently requested a $350 million bailout from the U.S. government, is giving away a car to the man who Oprah cried on during the Obama elections. How can we justify giving millions to a company that hands out its cars like a tag sale?

IT’S OFFICIAL- DJ KHALED NAMED PRESIDENT OF DEF JAM SOUTH

DJ Khaled named the President of Def Jam South

Sweet 16′er Aaron Reid (son of Def Jam Records’ Chairman L.A. Reid) just confirmed on his blog that DJ Khaled is set to take over Def Jam South as president. This is a big move for both Khaled and the label, considering they needed to bring some new talent in the building with the passing of veteran Shakir Stewart, and that DJ Khaled works with almost everyone in the modern hip-hop industry. Congrats, and we look forward to seeing big things from the new down-south prez!

USHER BLOWS UP ON TRL

What do you think, guys — did Usher beast?

CNN CALLS NICK CANNON AND MARIAH CAREY’S “MARRIAGE” A PUBLICITY STUNT

CNN is hating. I kind of agree with them though. Mariah’s trying to push those album sales up.

Spotted at Sandra Rose.

GRAMMY AWARDS 2008: OUR PREDICTIONS

Amy Winehouse - KilledThat.com

Album of the Year
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, Foo Fighters
These Days, Vince Gill
River: The Joni Letters, Herbie Hancock

Graduation, Kanye West
Back to Black, Amy Winehouse

Side note: This was a tough decision. Kanye’s Graduation, while a masterpiece, was not nearly as good as his last two albums. And let’s face it: Winehouse, as much as we hate to admit it, redefined soul music this year with Back To Black. No one would follow her every trial and tribulation unless she was truly brilliant. Amy takes the cake. And please don’t call us out on some racism shit.

IT’S OFFICIAL: JAY-Z RESIGNS FROM PRESIDENT OF DEF JAM RECORDS

Jay-Z Leaves Def Jam Records

So I guess the rumor mill was right this time: Jay-Z has confirmed that he will be leaving his position as the President of Def Jam Records as soon as the clock strikes midnight on January 1, 2008. I’m not sure what endeavors he plans to pursue in the near future, but whatever he ends up doing, I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

“While we regret his decision to move on, we certainly respect it,” L.A. Reid said in a statement. “Since Jay joined us as President of Def Jam in 2005, we have all benefited from his leadership, sense of spirit and invaluable friendship. While he will continue to be one of our signature artists, he will nonetheless be missed in this executive capacity. The entire Island Def Jam family joins me in wishing him the very best in all of his future business endeavors.”

“It’s time for me to take on new challenges,” Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter said in a statement.

This should be interesting…
